Never Say Never

I broke one of my biggest rules today. I bought my children toys for no reason. I'm big believer that children only need a few toys..the classics like- blocks, legos, dolls, kitchens and playfood., bikes...etc. I never buy my kids toys just to buy them, they either have to be bought with their own money or they are Christmas and birthday gifts. Well, there is nothing like a whole weekend stuck at home with two kids that don't play while trying to work!! They do in spurts usually coloring or drawing or doing pretend play. But in between that they just seem to make noise, pout and act like they are so deprived (John), ask over and over ...and over to go to the nearest McDonald's, Burger King etc. so thay can get a new toy from the Kid's meal (John) only to be played with in the car on the way home and then forgotten about once home. If John starts to play Anna will mess things up (usually takes one piece of the toy holds it and just stares at him and refuses to give it back) and John will have a cow about it and won't be able to just play with whatever as is. The TV is an option but they have pretty much seen all the TV shows only about 88 times each on the channels I let them watch...it is all old to them.

So today I had it....all day Saturday at home and then today at home. At about 1:30 I could not take it any more. I fussed at them a good bit, "why can't you play?!!, look at all these toys!!, what is wrong with you two!!! ugghhhh!!!. Had to tell them too many times to GET READY so we can go eat (John is already asking where?? where??? In other words what kids meal toy will I get today??) and go to the store (they are thinking grocery). So we head out to Burger King for Lunch so John can get the newest Sponge Bob toy. Then we go to Wal-mart. And I head to the toy isle. I start putting toys in the cart..looking at toys. Johns asking can I get this?? Anna wants a doodle bear thingy -NO!. I picked the toys, each kid got four toys. They were in total shock about getting all these toys at once. At the long check out line Anna keeps saying,"we don't need the bags, we don't need the bags!" As in we don't need to stand here and wait for (to pay) bags.....let's go. Silence in the car on the way home as they look at all their new stuff. They do have rules. These new toys must stay in their bedrooms. If I find them outside of their rooms I will get rid of the toy, FOREVER!! The other rule is when I tell the kids to go in their room to play, they better do it. This is something they just can not do. Well, now we will see if they can. I will do an update a week from today so share if they have been going to their rooms to play or if the new toys are just like all the others.

So here they are with their new toys!!
